An ANC councilor in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

The councilor is expected to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Monday after he was arrested in KwaNobuhle on Saturday night.

He allegedly walked out of a house’s yard at about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday and shot at a Toyota Tazz parked on the corner of Kinikini and Pityana streets.

Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says the 42-year-old occupant of the Toyota Tazz was not injured in the incident. The occupant drove away, after which he stopped a metro police vehicle in a nearby street to report the incident.

Police seized a firearm at the house in question, which was allegedly thrown out of a window. Naidu says the weapon will be sent for ballistic tests.

According to police information, the victim and councilor are not known to each other and the motive for the shooting incident is being investigated.
