A senior ANC member in Mpumalanga’s provincial executive committee is back at work after facing rape allegations.

His reappointment is effective immediately, said Sasekani Manzini, the ANC’s spokesperson in Mpumalanga.

Monica Nyuswa, the spokesperson for the national prosecuting authority, said the man approached the court with an application on his bail conditions.

“He said in a report that the ANC had deployed him. His bail conditions have been relaxed, so he only has to report to his local police station every Friday. “The other conditions are that he may not interfere with state witnesses, and he must report to the investigating officer in the case against him if he wants to leave the province,” she said.

ANC chairman Gwede Mantashe had earlier told the Sunday Times that top lawyers’ advice was that the party could not force anyone to step aside, as it was considered “voluntary action.”
