A couple from Bronkhorstspruit are apparently fighting for their lives after they were brutally attacked and tortured on Sunday on their farm near Bronkhorstspruit.
According to the Bronkhorstspruit Safety Information Network (BSIN), the 64-year-old man and his 53-year-old wife were attacked by six attackers at around 18:00 on Sunday. One of the attackers allegedly had a firearm.
The man was in the workshop near the farmhouse. He sounded the alarm and his wife went to investigate and saw her husband being assaulted.
The attackers immediately attacked the woman and the couple were allegedly beaten with wooden planks and pipes while the attackers demanded a large amount of money. The man’s leg was allegedly cut with an angle grinder and the woman was assaulted with a screwdriver, among other things.
Two handguns, jewelry, cash and household items were stolen. The attackers loaded their loot and the couple’s cellphones on the man’s bakkie and fled in the direction of the R104 and from there presumably in the direction of Bronkhorstspruit or Emalahleni.
The couple’s son arrived home shortly after the attack. His mother was able to unwrap herself and call him.
The man suffered, among other things, facial and skull fractures and had to undergo emergency surgery in a Johannesburg hospital. His wife was taken to Emalahleni by ambulance with a head wound and several bruises.
There is currently a search team looking for the robbed vehicle, a white2014 D4D Hilux bakkie, single cab, Reg YSH728GP.
