Farm attack: Elderly couple tied up

A couple and their daughter were robbed by five men in their house on a farm in Paarl on Tuesday night.

Capt. FC van Wyk, the police spokesperson, says the five men with balaclavas smashed a sliding door around midnight and thus gained access to the house.

“The men tied up the couple (in their 60s) and daughter and then looted the house,” says Van Wyk.

“They fled on foot with electronic objects, jewelery and firearms.”

No one sustained any injuries during the incident.

According to Van Wyk, the investigation into the incident indicates that someone already wanted to break into the premises on Sunday evening.

According to the Drakenstein farm guard, they were called after the couple managed to loosen their hands and call them over the emergency radio.

The farm guard’s emergency control room operators received the call, and a medical team and members of the Fidelity ADT security company were sent to the farm. Paarl police were also immediately notified of the incident and rushed to the farm.

“In the house, it was clear that there was a struggle, and the house was almost overturned,” the farm guard said on their Facebook page. “Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.”
