According to Netwerk24, a farm worker from Hennenman in the Free State tearfully told how she came across her employer’s body in his farmhouse.
Anna Bochedi found the body of Pieter Hills (56), owner of the farm Zwartpan, around 05:00 on Friday morning after he was shot dead.
Hills’ wife, Antionette, who was in Johannesburg, was furious because she could not get hold of her husband or her son, Eddie, on their cellphones. She asked Bochedi to investigate.
Bochedi told Netwerk24 at the scene how she looked into the door and saw Pieter on the floor.
Bochedi ran away and went to get another domestic worker, Maria Khumalo, to enter the house with her.
Khumalo came across the bloody scene where Eddie, 26, was lying and she immediately suspected the worst.
Bochedi says Khumalo screamed: “Boeta is dead”, before she fainted. However, Eddie was still alive.
The attackers overpowered Eddie after which a fierce fight ensued in the kitchen.
According to Bochedi, the kitchen was “destroyed” as Eddie and his attackers fought.
He was stabbed in the lung with a sharp object.
Police spokesman Stephen Thakeng confirmed Hills had been shot in the head.
According to Thakeng, the attackers looted two or three firearms from the safe.
It is not certain if Hills was shot dead with one of his own firearms.
