Farm Murder: Elderly farmer tied to a tree, shot

KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating a case of murder after an elderly farmer who was attacked about two weeks ago has since succumbed to his injuries.

Mpozana Khumalo, 79, died in hospital on Friday after being shot on November 17 in the Nkomba area in Muden, northwest of Greytown.

Angus Williamson, chairman of the local farmers’ association, says Khumalo went to look at his son’s cattle and sheep on a farm that day when he was attacked. He was tied to a tree before being shot and left for dead.

Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele said Khumalo was shot in his chest’s right side during the attack and robbed of his cellphone and cash before the attackers fled.

Workers on the farm came across Khumalo after which he was rushed to a hospital.
