On the 07th of October, the Verulam Regional Court sentenced Simphiwe Nkomo to 15 years imprisonment for murder.
On the 03rd of December 2016, Philani Dladla, 30, was walking with two of his friends when they crossed Nkomo and his brother sitting near a dwelling at Magwaveni.
Nkomo’s brother blamed them for breaking the windows at his shack, and all denied doing so. They told them of the person who broke the windows, and a discussion followed.
Nkomo attacked one of the female friends, Dladla scolded him, and then they left.
Nkomo went after them with a knife and stabbed Dladla multiple times. Dladla warned his friends to flee. He sustained various stab wounds and was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
A murder case was opened at Tongaat police station for investigation.
Nkomo fled the area and was tracked in the Eastern Cape province. Detectives detained Nkomo last year in February.
He was held in custody during the trial until his successful prosecution.
