According to the South African police Newsroom, a 16-year-old minor was today remanded in custody when he appeared in the Bloemhof Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder. He will appear in court again on 14 October for legal representation.
An inquiry at SAPS was opened on Sunday afternoon after a 4-year-old was reported missing. Police says information suggests that the little girl was last seen in the company of a man on the N12 road near Boitumelong.
The minor is being processed in terms of the Child Justice Act of 2008. The minor was subsequently apprehended on 21 September. According to SAPS, he was handed over to the police by a local pastor to whom he confessed to killing a young girl and that he left her body in the bushes not far from Boitumelong.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena expressed shock over the killing of the 4-year-old.
