Cape Town metro police arrested a 35-year-old man in Ravensmead on Thursday who was carrying nearly R1m worth of fake cigarettes.
According to the metro police statement, officers found it strange to see a light delivery vehicle driving around the area with an emergency service sticker around 4 p.m.
The vehicle was stopped, after which the driver indicated that he was carrying cigarettes.
The officers found 70 boxes of forged cigarettes, with an estimated street value of about R955 500, in the vehicle.
The driver was taken to the Ravensmead police station and charges of possession of counterfeit goods and violation of the Disaster Management Act are being investigated.
