A tow truck driver was shot dead after chasing cash in transit robbers in Johannesburg.

The suspects attacked a money van of the security company G4S on Friday around 8:00 after security guards loaded money at ATMs, lt.col. Brenda Muridili, police spokeswoman, said.

The money van was on its way to Discovery Road in Florida when the 12 suspects in four different vehicles, a black BMW, a black Mercedes Benz, a white Ford Ranger, and a white Audi Q5, opened fire on the money van.

The driver of the money van stopped, and the suspects left the security guards on the ground. “The suspects used explosives to blow up the money van and fled with an unknown amount of cash.”

The Towing vehicle driver saw what was happening and chased the suspects. “Shots were fired, and the driver of the tow truck was fatally wounded.”
