Amazon creates 3000 jobs for South Africans

Amazon has created 3,000 jobs for South Africans in its customer service division, the company announced Thursday.

All posts will be virtual.

Amazon’s announcement comes amid a global economic recession as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic.

“We welcome Amazon’s decision to establish more of its global services in South Africa,” said Ebrahim Patel, Commerce, Industry and Competition Minister.

“We intend to secure thousands of such posts over the next few years.”

Once the 3,000 jobs are filled, Amazon will have at least 7,000 South Africans in its service.

The new positions range from junior assistants in the customer service department, to established technical experts, Amazon said in a statement.

The new employees will provide support to Amazon’s customers in North America and Europe day and night.
