Another suspected farm murderer out on bail

After a suspected murderer was granted bail in Petrus Steyn on Wednesday, the residents said the legal system let them down time and time again.

Jacob Mokoena, who is on trial for the murder of the well-known farmer Jan de Kock six years ago, was arrested on October 20 in Sharpeville’s squatter camp.

According to Netwerk24, Sakkie Bosman, a security representative in the area says that Mokoena has three different residential addresses and had De Kock’s stolen firearms.

Mokoena is due to appear in court again on December 2.

Bosman says the community is very unhappy about this because they believe that lawlessness is the order of the day.

De Kock’s daughter, Christelle Lombard, says the family was happy to hear that someone had been arrested, but they were disappointed that bail was granted to him so easily.

She says one would expect the brutal murder of her father should prompt the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and follow up on clues properly.
