The Department of Basic Education said on Saturday that all teachers with permission to work from home during the overall nationwide isolation must return to school on Monday, when level 1 of the isolation period begins.
Level 1 takes effect at midnight on Sunday 20 September.
“The implication of the president’s announcement to move the country to level 1 therefore means that the concessions to work from home will no longer apply from midnight on Sunday.
“The employees who are affected by this must therefore report for duty again from Monday 21 September. Those who are still not healthy are advised to follow the usual sick leave protocol, ”the department said in a statement this afternoon.
According to the statement, more than 22,500 teachers across the country have been given permission to work from home over the past six months amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the department is convinced that the risk of infection in the midst of level 1 has significantly decreased.
