During a visit to the Normandy community near Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal, Police Minister Bheki Cele said he hopes Glen and Vida Rafferty’s killers will be arrested within the next two weeks.

Cele visited Normandy on Wednesday to talk to the Raffertys’ family and community members about their concerns about crime in the area.

“I will visit there again in two weeks so that we can discuss plans to fight crime here. “I hope I can bring good news for the family in connection with the investigation and that the suspects have been arrested,” Cele said on Wednesday.

He says since the murders of the Rafferty couple, he has heard from various quarters that their death is a great loss to the community.

“I have only heard good things from them.”

He says although it is now too late, one must ask what can be done to prevent these kinds of crimes. “We will have to find strategies to prevent crime before we have to prosecute suspects,” Cele told the community.
