Body of missing Kimberly woman found hidden in a shallow grave

Police unearthed the body of a 31-year-old woman Thursday morning in a shallow grave in Kimberley, Northern Cape. The grave was behind a sinkhole in the Ivory Park informal settlement in Roodepan. The body was already severely decomposed.

Police spokeswoman Olebogeng Tawana says the woman was reported missing on June 7 and has since been searched by police.

Tawana said a 39-year-old man who was believed to be the woman’s friend was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the woman’s death. He is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.

Northern Cape Provincial Police Commissioner Risimati Peter Shivuri strongly condemned this type of violence against women.
