COVID-19: Another 8,124 people in South Africa have tested positive

Another 8,124 people in South Africa have tested positive for the new coronavirus over the past 24 hours. A total of 159 333 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have already been reported in the country.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize released the latest statistics on Covid-19 on Wednesday evening.

According to Mkhize, another 92 patients have since died of the virus. The deaths have been reported in the Eastern Cape (17), Gauteng (28), KwaZulu-Natal (10) and the Western Cape (37).

This brings the death toll to 2,749, with a death rate of 1.7%.

However, Mkhize said 76 025 patients had already recovered. This indicates a recovery rate of 47.7%.

A total of 1 666 939 tests have been performed to date, of which more than half (52%) have been done in the private sector.
