André de Ruyter, CEO of Eskom, suspended the managers of two power stations due to the situation that led to phase 4 load shedding.

These are the managers of Tutuka and Kendal.

The suspensions are pending disciplinary investigations.

Eskom says in a statement on Friday morning that the two’s suspension is related to phase 4 load shedding, which had to be introduced this week.

In addition, “steps are apparently being taken” at the Kriel and Duvha power stations.

In the past week, units at all four of these power stations broke down.

Eskom says in the statement that the executive management of the power giant made it clear to the managers of power stations that the culture that management should not take responsibility for what happens at the stations will not be tolerated any further.

Eskom says in the statement that it has already sent three senior managers to the power stations to offer “personal” assistance.

Eskom said on Thursday that phase 3 load shedding would be introduced on Friday from 08:00 to 22:00. Load shedding is also expected to be introduced over the weekend.
