Farm Murder: Elderly farmer murdered in Northern Cape

Published

on

A farmer from Komaggas in the Northern Cape was attacked in his house at Buffels River on Friday night.

Police spokesman Sergio Kock says Komaggas police are investigating a homicide case after Paul Mostert, 77, was attacked by a number of men in his home.

Mostert lives alone on his farm.

“There is not much information about the attack yet, but the men apparently knocked and then stormed into the house when Mostert opened,” said Kock.

He was threatened with a weapon and beaten over the head and in the face.

The men cut off the power supply to the house. They allegedly demanded money. Police have not yet been able to determine if anything was stolen from Mostert’s home.

According to Fanie Mostert, a cousin of the victim, his uncle managed to call the police in Komaggas. He could also drive towards him.

Mostert called an ambulance and his uncle was taken to a hospital in Springbok where he was stabilized before being transferred to a hospital in Upington.

He wrote on the group Namaqualand Thoughts on Facebook on Friday night: “People I do not like politics, but what is going on in our country now makes me bitter. They just attacked my 77-year-old uncle in his house. “

Kock says no one has been arrested yet.
