"Hard lockdown possible", Ramaphosa to address SA this week

Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the country this week regarding the latest developments regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.

SABC News reports that the president said during an event over the weekend that it was high time he addressed the country again.

Ramaphosa said at a meeting of the African Union last week that countries must be vigilant in order to try to avoid a second wave of the coronavirus that could lead to renewed restrictions.

“The pandemic is showing a lot of resilience and countries that have shown a decrease in infections are now also experiencing increases in infections that lead to new restrictions. We must try to avoid that scenario in Africa, ”Ramaphosa said.

This comes amid growing reports that the country’s Covid-19 cases are starting to increase again and that a stricter restriction can be considered.

Sihle Zikalala, KwaZulu-Natal premier, said the threat of a hard lockdown is real during a media briefing on Sunday, October 25.

“Looking at the statistics, we can now safely say that we are definitely going back into a hard lockdown if there is no urgent and drastic change in behavior,” said Zikalala.
