The rapist of a teenage girl from Slough Village in Tsineng near Kuruman in the Northern Cape has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Police spokesperson Mashay Gamieldien says the girl, who was 15 years old at the time, went with friends to Kabelo Kaotsane (34)’s house on December 16, 2016 at around 16:00 to have her hair cut.

The friends later went home after the girl assured them that Kaotsane would walk home with her.

Kaotsane cut the girl’s hair and suddenly started strangling her after which he threw her on his bed and ripped off her clothes. He raped the girl.

The girl was able to escape when Kaotsane fell asleep.

She immediately reported the incident to police.

Kaotsane was arrested the same day.

He was sentenced in the Kuruman Regional Court on Tuesday to 22 years in prison.

Nicky Mills, provincial commander of the unit against domestic violence, child abuse and sexual offenses (GKS), says the sentence is gratifying.
