Thoko Didiza, Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, condemns the “senseless murder” of the young Free State farm manager Brendin Horner (21).
Horner drove from his father, Robbie, to a neighboring farm around 7 p.m. Thursday. His girlfriend, Lenize Taljaard, was waiting for him at the couple’s house and started looking for him at 22:00.
Brendin Horner was tied to a pole on the farm with a rope around his neck. He had injuries to his head and face and was pronounced dead at the scene.
SA Updates earlier reported that Brendin Horner was allegedly stabbed several times with a knife and also had a head wound.
The minister expressed her shock at the “brutal murder” in a statement and asked law enforcement agencies to do everything in their power to catch the culprits and get them pinned.
“I can not emphasize more strongly the role that farmers and farm workers play in the food value chain. The murder has a devastating effect on our industry, ”said Didiza.
The minister also expressed her condolences to Brendin Horner’s family, friends and colleagues.
