Police arrest a 31-year-old man for livestock theft

According to the SAPS Newsroom, the Rietfontein Stock Theft Unit members arrested a 31-year-old man found with stolen sheep in a trailer. The Stock Theft Unit arrested the suspect near a farm yesterday, after the Stock Theft Unit members, Detectives, and Visible Police received a tip-off regarding a man who was seen in the field loading sheep in a bakkie and a trailer.

A quick response of the police to a tip-off payed off when they found the suspect in possession of 11 lambs including 33 sheep to the value of R60 000-00.

The owner of the livestock was called to the scene and identified the sheep and lambs

The suspect is expected to appear before Rietfontein Magistrate’s Court, on a charge of stock theft.

The Acting District Commissioner of ZF Mcgcawu, Brigadier Besnaar applauded community members for playing a pivotal role in the fight against crime.
