Police arrest eight suspects for illegal firearms

Police officers arrested eight suspects aged between 22 and 35 for illegal possession of a firearm at Richmond’s cemetery from Richmond SAPS and the Public Order Police Unit.

The defendants appeared at the Richmond Magistrates Court on Monday.

Alleged criminal, Nkanyiso Mkhize’s funeral was on the 3rd of October.
Mkhize was found dead with his friend, Mlamuli Phungula.

Police were informed about the spinning of vehicles and random shots at the cemetery. Police arrived at the cemetery and found people leaving.
Officers then examined all the cars that were leaving the cemetery. A weapon with its serial number filed off was obtained from a vehicle with eight individuals.

Both bodies were discovered dropped in the bushes within the Alexandra Road policing area.
Allegedly Mkhize and Phungula were kidnapped on the 26th of September from the Richmond CBD.

Mkhize had been charged for a murder case that happened on the 4th of August, where Ntuthuko Ndlovu was shot and lost his life on Richmond.
Major General Thilani Gonya, the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Providential Commissioner, has praised the police officers.
Gonya also said the weapon found would be sent to the ballasting testing to discover if it was used in the murders.
