Two suspects aged 28 and 45 are required to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court today, the 09th of October, on charges of possession of infrastructure materials.

A multi-disciplinary strategy-driven operation by Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Provincial Crime Intelligence, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Department supported by Transnet, ended in a swift arrest of Plant and Operations Managers of a steel and production company in Alberton for possession of infrastructure material.

The investigation team followed up on intelligence concerning questionable non-ferrous metals recorded to be transported and recycled at a steel and manufacturing company at Alrode in Alberton yesterday.

Upon arrival, a search and capture warrant was performed.

Among other seized items that Transnet confidently identified as theirs include oversized trail jumpers, contact wires, overhead cables, railway tracks, and springs with an estimated value of R25 million. The two men were arrested immediately.

The men were charged for contravention of the Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015 and Second Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009.
The investigation proceeds.
