Julius Malema, EFF leader, and Mbuyiseni Ndloz appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for the assaults’ of a police officer in 2018.
EFF members, including Malema’s deputy Floyd Shivambu, filled the courtroom and some media were denied access.
AfriForum announced in July that it would approach the court with a mandamus application to compel the NPA to take a decision on the prosecution of Malema regarding these and two other pending cases against him.
The NPA said in September that Malema and Ndlozi were being prosecuted in connection with the incident.
During the court proceedings, white South Africans were chased out by the EFF.
According to Roets, the court asked that AfriForum and media leave the court due to COVID-19 regulations.
