Funeral services have been instructed to take part in a nationwide strike of this industry from Monday to Wednesday.
The protest was called by the Unification Task Team of the National Association of Funeral Homes. It consists of 17 associations and forums of funeral homes.
The strike, according to the UTT, means no bodies will be taken away from private and state hospitals or homes, and no funerals will be held. Funeral services’ doors must be locked.
The Doves funeral home said in a notice to clients its doors will be closed from Monday to Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the health department said in a statement that they were aware of the planned strike.
“This is very worrying as these actions could lead to a health risk,” wrote spokesperson Popo Maja.
Protesters in Cape Town protested with a casket and a person inside earlier today.
