Western Cape Premier test positive for COVID-19

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde tested positive for Covid-19. He has flu symptoms and is currently in self-isolation for fourteen days at home, a statement released Wednesday afternoon said.

Winds started to develop flu symptoms on Sunday.

“Since I am a diabetic (type 2) and older than 55, I know that I am at high risk of developing a more serious disease. So I got myself tested on Monday to determine the cause of the symptoms. “

He stayed home when he began to feel ill and confirmed that he had only moderate symptoms.

“It feels like I’m having a cold.”

“However, in view of my risk category, I will carefully monitor my health to ensure that any change is picked up quickly.”

Mondli Gungubele, chair of the parliamentary portfolio committee on social development also tested positive for Covid-19. Gungubele, a former deputy finance minister, was too dissatisfied on Wednesday to oversee a committee meeting. MPs from various political parties wished Gungubele strength in their respective talks on his road to recovery.
