A woman was beheaded and two more people were killed during a suspected terrorist attack at a church in the French city of Nice.
The attacker, who was armed with a knife, allegedly shouted “Allahu akbar” (“God is great”) before committing the murders.
Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, described the attack in or near Notre Dame church as an act of terrorism and said the attackers had been apprehended.
According to Estrosi, one of the people killed in the church is believed to be a caretaker. “The suspected attacker was shot by the police while they arrested him. He is alive and has been taken to hospital, ”said Estrosi.
“Enough is enough. “It is now time for France to free itself from the laws of peace in order to eradicate Islamic fascism on our territory,” he said.
Police said it was confirmed that three people were killed and that numerous people were injured in the attack. Estrosi said the victims were killed in a “horrific manner”.
