COVID-19: 2 646 new cases in South Africa

According to the latest figures, 2 646 new coronavirus infections have been reported in South Africa. 

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says 86 deaths have been reported since the last report. Most (58) were in the Eastern Cape. In the Free State, 17 people died, in the Western Cape nine and KwaZulu-Natal two. 

Since the outbreak in March, a total of 765,409 infections have been reported in South Africa. 

A total of 707,784 people recovered from the disease. According to Mkhize, this represents a recovery rate of 92.5%. 

There are currently 36,780 active cases in the country, Mkhize said.
