Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement that South Africa’s coronavirus cases had increased by 2 213 new cases on Friday night.
The Eastern Cape (1 067) and the Western Cape (507) reported the most new cases. Gauteng (203) and KwaZulu-Natal (139) reported the third and fourth most cases, respectively. The rest of the provinces all reported less than 100 coronavirus cases.
Mkhize says 77 deaths were reported, most of which were reported in the Eastern Cape (29), the Free State (21) and the Western Cape (11).
There are currently 34,615 active cases in South Africa, with the most active cases in the Free State (8,770). The Eastern Cape (7,535), the Western Cape (5,155), and KwaZulu-Natal (4,985) have the second, third, and fourth most active cases in the country, respectively.
