Visits to state hospitals suspended in Western Cape

Amid the second wave of coronavirus now gaining a foothold in the country, no more visitors will be allowed at state hospitals in the Western Cape.

This is part of the temporary changes to service delivery announced by the Western Cape Department of Health at Hospitals and Health Facilities in the province.

People who have to visit the hospital will only be allowed when wearing a mask that covers their mouth and nose. They will have to answer questions before gaining access to make sure no one with symptoms of Covid-19 or who has the flu enters the hospital, a statement from the department said.

Due to the increase in hospitalizations due to the second Covid-19 spate, non-invasive appointments for outpatients will also be postponed.

Patients stable in the hospital will be discharged for further treatment at home or at a facility for such patients.
