Alan Winde, Premier of the Western Cape, says his health system and workers are currently under enormous pressure.

He called on Western Cape residents on Tuesday afternoon to help alleviate the current pressure that the coronavirus pandemic is putting on the health system now more than ever before.

Winde, together with Nomafrench Mbombo, MEC for health, and dr. Keith Cloete, provincial health chief, addressed journalists online about the latest developments regarding the second wave of infections that is currently also sweeping across the province.

According to Winde, the new variant of the coronavirus disease mutated much faster and spread very aggressively.

South Africa has now officially paid its deposit to the international Covax vaccine program.

This will ensure that the country receives its first consignment of coronavirus vaccines by Covax late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of next year.
