According to News24, Bheki Cele will meet with political leaders such as Julius Malema, EFF leader, and Pieter Groenewald, leader of the FF Plus, as well as with agricultural leaders. According to News24, Cele will enter into discussions to defuse the tension before the accused in the murder of the 21-year-old Brendin Horner appear in court next Friday in Senekal.
This comes after chaos broke out at the Senekal court on Tuesday.
High tension reigned in Senekal in the Free State this week after a group of farmers stormed the court building on Tuesday in search of Sekwetje Mahlamba (32) and Sekola Matlaletsa (44), who are on trial for Horner’s murder.
Malema appealed to the EFF’s “ground forces” to “protect democracy and property” next Friday with the next court appearance of the two alleged murderers.
Cele said “we all feel pain, we no longer need it”.
He is concerned that statements by political leaders are contributing to the tension.
He is meeting with police on Saturday about the case, Cele said.
“I have also talked to dr. Groenewald spoke and I will also speak to Julius (Malema).
“As the state, it is our responsibility to protect everyone, but we will first have to try to defuse the tensions that are running high.”
He says it is important that Malema and Groenewald talk to each other, even though it will not be easy for them to agree.
