The Western Cape Provincial Organised Crime and Anti Hijacking Unit are investigating a case of hijacking after a truck was hijacked on 17 September.
The hijacking took place on the corner of Owen and Halt Road, Elsies River.
According to a report by the South Africa Police, the truck was loaded with 36 pallets with sparkling wine valued over R1 million.
According the report from SAPS, on Friday, 18 September, the investigating team followed up on information and made a breakthrough when they established the truck stopped at an address in Ottery, Cape Town.
The officers conducted observations at business premises when they saw boxes of sparkling wine loaded into a truck. The officers followed the truck from Lansdown SAPS when the truck was stopped. 320 Boxes of sparkling wine was found. Two of the suspects were arrested for possession of presumed stolen property.
All the suspects will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 September 2020.
