A man who tried to cross the Nelson Mandela Bay subway during the state of containment has been caught in possession of R250 000 worth of marijuana.
The 45-year-old man was stopped in a roadblock in Colchester just outside Port Elizabeth on Thursday morning.
He did not have a valid permit to drive between districts, and police searched his minibus.
Capt. Police spokesperson André Beetge said police found about 120 kg of marijuana in six bags hidden in the minibus and trailer.
Beetge says it’s unclear where the man was headed. He was arrested on a charge of dagga trafficking.
The vehicle and trailer were confiscated.
The man, who will soon appear in court, will also be charged with a violation of the regulations under the Disaster Management Act.
