A man was shot dead by gunmen on Saturday at about 23:30 on his holding in Buffelsdrift, north of Pretoria. A friend who visited him was tied up, but later escaped.
Gauteng police spokeswoman Kay Makhubela says three armed men gained access to the home through a bathroom window.
“They both tied men with electrical cords. One of the men tried to fight back and was fatally wounded. The robbers fled with a Volkswagen Amarok, ”says Makhubela.
According to the Tshwane Metro Police’s Facebook page, the bakkie was noticed in the Sinoville area.
“Tshwane metro police officers were busy patrolling on the R101 on Saturday night when they spotted a suspicious vehicle coming from the Wallmansthal off-ramp. When the occupants saw the officers, they made a U-turn. The officers pursued them. The suspects ran into a fence and ran away. The vehicle was searched and suspected stolen goods were seized.
“A few hours later, police were notified that the vehicle and other goods were stolen on a holding,” the metro police’s Facebook entry reads.
Marius Muller, National Security Coordinator for AfriForum, says that the deceased lived alone and the friend visited him on Saturday night.
“They were in the house when the burglars – all with handguns – entered the house. The homeowner was shot and his friend tied up. The friend later cut himself and called for help. “
