On Monday, three suspects accused of murder were placed in custody upon appearance before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court.
Meriam Mahlapa, 20, Petrus Mahlapa, 24, and Andries Mahlapa, 28, were charged with the murder of 71-year-old Sias Renier Willemse.
They will re-appear in court on Tuesday the 13th of October, for a formal bail application.
The suspect’s court appearance originates from their arrest in Ikageng. Information was obtained and operationalized by the Potchefstroom Drug Task Team, Potchefstroom Detectives, and three security companies on the 28th of September.
Willemse’s body was found on the floor with a bullet wound on his neck, in his house in Baillie Park, Potchefstroom, on Tuesday, the 22nd of September.
It is further alleged that the victim’s body was found with ties wrapped around his neck. The Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) has declared Willemse dead on the scene.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated the Investigating Officer, WO Kevin Pretorius of Potchefstroom Detectives, and the breakthrough team.
He pointed out that police will remain to work hard to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
