A two-year-old girl was allegedly raped while in a Covid-19 isolation room at the Dr. George Mukhari Hospital in Pretoria.
The father, who cannot be identified in order to protect his daughter, said during protest action by #NotInMyNameSA activists at the hospital on Friday that he would do everything in his power to get justice for his daughter.
“I appeal to the nation, I beg fellow South Africans – please help me, my daughter deserves justice. Please help me, because my daughter was harmed by someone in this hospital. ”
According to the father, the family has not yet received any help after the alleged incident. “We have now received calls after the matter has received media attention.” After the girl was discharged and taken home, her parents suspected disorder and took her to a clinic after which they were referred back to the Dr. George Mukhari Hospital.
The police apparently also sent the child’s parents from port to starboard when they wanted to file a case.
“The police were called but they did not show up for hours. We left the hospital and went to the Ga-Rankuwa police station where we begged for help.”
Gauteng police said on Monday that an investigation had been launched into the alleged rape as well as the allegations that the family had struggled to get help from the police.
