A horse has been killed and more horses injured after rioters at a local informal settlement stormed the Fairview Racecourse in Port Elizabeth on Thursday morning, unleashing the horses on the premises and injuring them.
According to information, a group of almost 200 people broke open one of the gates of the stables and chased 28 horses out.
The horses were apparently beaten with sticks and daggers while being chased out.
Allegedly, the protest is related to a dispute over workers who were fired.
An unverified voice note that was sent around in Port Elizabeth said that 17 horses were killed by rioters in Port Elizabeth. The rioters attacked the horses with pangas. Some of the horses were put down due to broken legs.
