Eskom said on Friday night that phase 2 load shedding would be put into operation on Saturday and Sunday.
“This is being done to replenish the emergency generation reserves that were depleted last week so that preparations can be made for the coming week.
“The system is still unreliable and vulnerable,” Eskom said.
A total of 11 090MW was lost due to unplanned maintenance work for the network, while 5 371MW had to be taken out of the network due to planned maintenance work.
Eskom says its teams are working tirelessly to re-employ as many generating units as possible.
