Mlungisi Mvoko, MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism in the Eastern Cape, and his wife, Balise, tested positive for the coronavirus.
It was announced by Prime Minister Oscar Mabuyane’s office on Friday night.
Mabuyane spokesperson Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha said the results came after the couple decided to test the virus after having flu symptoms.
They are now in isolation, Sicwetsha said.
The Eastern Cape provincial government wishes Mvoko and his wife good luck during their isolation period, Sicwetsha said in the statement. He said Mabuyane spoke to Mvoko earlier on Friday to wish him and his wife a quick recovery.
“Premier Mabuyane has made a decision to allow Mvoko time to recover and also to focus on his wife’s.”
As a result, Mabuyane has appointed two MECs to serve in the departments.
Nomakhosazana Meth, MEC for Rural Development and Agricultural Reform, has been appointed as MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism.
