ANC Member of parliament Tina Joemat-Pettersson says the portfolio committee on policing she leads is working hard to ensure that the police implement its rural security.
She says the ANC condemns farm attacks and killings, which undermine the country’s ability to create a prosperous agricultural sector.
These unscrupulous criminals destabilize the rural areas.
Most farm attacks (in the latest statistics) took place in the Free State, the Eastern Cape, and Limpopo. The ANC is concerned about that, she says. “As the ANC, we will continue to work with the National Commissioner of Police and the Minister of Police to bring back specialist units against farm murders, as the Minister announced earlier.”
“We feel for every family that has been violently attacked. We as the ANC express our condolences to all victims. We can not accept it. We condemn these murders.
“Just as we condemn the brutal murder of Nathaniel Julius in Eldorado Park.
“We have been informed that the implementation of the rural security plan has begun in earnest and that more resources will be made available to combat farm attacks and killings.
“Yes, we are emotional. Any murder of a woman and child makes us emotional. But let’s not create pandemonium and say there’s a white genocide in the country. All farmers ‘lives matter, but also Nathaniel Julius’ life matters. ”
She says she also wants to acknowledge that South Africa belongs to everyone who lives in it, black and white, farm workers and farmers.
