The ruling party cannot keep its leaders suspected of corruption indefinitely suspended, ANC secretary general Ace Magashule said.
This is in defense of the reappointment of two party officials in Limpopo, who were implicated in the fraud and corruption committed at VBS Mutual Bank.
“You can’t suspend people forever. These comrades were not charged by anyone. Regarding the allegations, their names were mentioned in various reports, as are many other people’s names, ”Magashule said at a media briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
“Allegations are not facts, so let’s not stain people’s image with allegations.
“The ANC should never move away from the universal principle of proving innocent to otherwise.”
Radzilani was mentioned in the report entitled “The Great Bank Heist” by Adv. Terry Motau SC on the robbery of VBS, claiming she received R300 000 as a “Christmas gift” from the bank’s directors after depositing money from the Vhembe district municipality with the now-bankrupt bank.
Msiza has been accused of encouraging municipalities to invest their money with the bank.
The ANC’s decision to restore the two in their posts was greeted with criticism by Jacques Smalle, DA leader in Limpopo. He says he finds it ironic that Magashule’s announcement of this coincides with the issuance of the Auditor General’s report with the audit outcome of local municipalities for the 2018-19 financial year. It found that illegal spending is on the rise in local governments.
