The VF Plus has issued a series of recommendations to Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa and the government’s Covid-19 task team presented urgent interventions to address the state of the state of containment.
The party says the biggest problems are the incorrect application and / or interpretation of the regulations. This needs to be corrected, says Dr. Pieter Groenewald, party leader.
According to Groenewald, the party’s proposals also tackle ways to remedy the shortcomings in the regulations, as well as steps that can be taken to benefit the public and the economy.
Groenewald said in a statement that the recommendations also included plans on how to tackle municipalities’ misinterpretation of the regulations and provide more clarity to law enforcement authorities about the circumstances under which South Africans may leave their homes.
The party’s proposals come just days after the DA sent Ramaphosa his “smart model or strategy for containment”. The DA says its proposals will complement the response plan against Covid-19 and at the same time protect the economy.
Solidarity also warned earlier of the consequences of further restrictions in the current format.
Groenewald says the steps to stop the Covid 19 pandemic have a major impact on the people of South Africa and on the country’s economic survival.
“The Covid-19 infection rate should be curbed while allowing more economic activity in a responsible and innovative way,” he says.
The VF Plus wants the government to tackle the unemployment insurance fund, make ironware available for permissible critical maintenance work, allow essential agricultural activities such as stock auctions with the appropriate measures, allow neighborhood and farm watchers to function fully, find ways to cope with poor border control , introduce mandatory measures to limit the spread of the virus to businesses that sell essential products or services, limit the loss of government revenue and trade online, and enable the delivery of goods.
Groenewald says it includes measures that make it possible for restaurants to deliver take-away meals to customers.
The VF Plus also proposes that the government launch an online store to enable retailers, such as in the arts and crafts or clothing industry, to sell their products online.
“It should be noted that most South Africans have become vulnerable, and the most vulnerable even more.
“All South Africans are vulnerable because of the pandemic and the socio-economic consequences of the economic collapse.
“Someone who had a steady income a month ago and who could take care of his or her family suddenly became extremely vulnerable.
“Someone who could afford a mortgage and other financial obligations is suddenly bankrupt. This vulnerability extends to all races, ages and genders. “
