In an address to the nation, President Ramaphosa said that as far as alcohol is concerned – it has been decided that sales and distribution of alcohol will be suspended immediately.
Ramaphosa also announced a new curfew, everyone must stay at home overnight from 21:00 to 04:00. This applies from Monday. This is the new evening clock rule.
The national disaster is being extended until August 15 Ramaphosa said.
Ramaphosa says the stigma about the virus must be broken. He thanks the thousands of people who are fighting the virus, nursing staff, doctors. The media, police, military and traffic officers responsible for security. The essential workers who help keep the country going.
According to Ramaphosa, Health facilities in many provinces are under severe pressure. There is information that infected people are being turned away at facilities because there are no beds. Extra action must be taken to limit the peak of the infection.
