The Western Cape Department of Community Safety has redeployed 38 members of its private security team to, among other things, health department facilities to help protect it amid the state of containment.
Albert Fritz, community safety MEC, says the officers will help control the influx of patients. In addition, they will also assist the provincial disaster management center and certain hospital premises where they will provide support to the Department of Health on a rotating basis day and night.
* 12 security officers who will serve at the disaster management center;
* 16 women members of the safety team at the three new breastfeeding clinics; and

“In addition to these measures, a rapid response unit consisting of five members of the safety team was set up to assist with other urgent short-term needs during the containment, while also performing a monitoring and evaluation function at the 14 health facilities where the Department of Community Safety’s private security officers have been redeployed. “
