A Free State farmer was arrested in connection with the violence that broke out outside the magistrate’s court in Senekal yesterday says police.
Thousands of people marched to court where 21-year-old farm manager Brendin Horner’s two alleged killers appeared in court. Horner’s body was found on a farm in the Paul Roux area on Thursday.
Free State police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele said a senior officer was appointed after the riot to lead a team to investigate the “outbreak of violence” and bring those responsible to justice.
“The team continued the work to identify those responsible for such riotous behavior and it led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man who is a farmer in Marquard but lives in Senekal,” said Makhele.
The farmer is accused of willful damage to property and public violence. According to Makhele, he will soon appear in the Senekal Magistrate’s Court.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests will follow soon, according to police.
