Lenin Shope, South Africa’s ambassador to Senegal, has died in Dakar.

The presidency said in a statement on Saturday that President Cyril Ramaphosa conveys his condolences to especially Shope’s mother, Gertrude Shope, a veteran ANC politician and former leader of the ANC Women’s League.

Shope, who died earlier this week, has had a long diplomatic career and has represented South Africa in Botswana, Italy, Australia, and Cuba. He went to school in Cuba and studied engineering at the Havana University of Technology between 1982 and 1986, Ramaphosa said.
