On Friday, the DA said that it would not support a motion of no confidence in Ramaphosa next Thursday.

Thandi Modise said on Thursday she had approved the ATM request, which has only two MPs.

DA national spokesperson Siviwe Gwarube said on Friday that the DA would not support the motion “because we believe that ATM is just a mouthpiece for the Zuma / Magashule faction in the ANC and that the motion is not sincere.”

The DA does not believe the motion is related to the state of affairs in the country or Ramaphosa’s ability or inability to steer South Africa in the right direction.

According to Gwarube, the DA is well aware of the problems associated with the Ramaphosa presidency “such as the fact that it cannot rectify the weak economy, that many more people are currently unemployed and that it could not reverse the situation.

“However, we refuse to legitimize these ANC infighting by supporting the motion of no confidence,” she said.
