Phumzile van Damme is no longer the DA’s spokesperson on communication.

The DA announced its newly elected shadow cabinet on Saturday. Zak Mbele is now the party’s spokesperson on communications, telecommunications, and postal services.

The DA also announced all its other spokespersons in various departments and said in a media statement that it is standard procedure after a federal congress that the party leader may adjust his shadow cabinet in collaboration with his caucus.

Van Damme said on Twitter that she’s “OK”.

Van Damme said on Twitter, “I intend to abide by this instruction. I’m on sabbatical until 30 March 2021, as instructed. The party and I will talk through my lawyers in 2021.”

Natasha Mazonne, the DA’s chief whip, said on Saturday morning that she, Steenhuisen, and the DA caucus had decided together to send Van Damme on “sabbatical leave” for three months because she apparently had serious health problems.
